  1. It's funny - I was going down the long list of people and saw Ava Gardner and though, "She had to have an oxygen tank for the last few years of her life and suffered from emphysema... :(" Then I got down and saw you know who and was like, "...Well if he's selling, I'll buy them!" xD haha jk jk jk. Smoking is never good for you and it shouldn't be so glamorized in the media the way it is.
I can't say I've NEVER smoked, but I am definitely not a constant, three packs a day girl.
I LOVE how you're addressing this on your blog babe :D

  2. and you know, I smoke, not every day, but I do. And recently, there was a law here in Poland which says you can't smoke in the restaurants/pubs etc if they don't have a special room for smokers. and SUDDENLY, all the people are SOOOOOOO anti smoking, weeks ago no one had a problem, and now, all is a mess, i hate it!

and then again, Ava was sick all her life, mentally (imho, she had a pretty sad life even though she had so many husbands, she was pretty much lonely all her life) and physically, years of alcohol and constant smoking lead to you know what.

but there are many people who do smoke like mad and never get ill... it just depends. but still, you can't say for sure you'll never get ill after smoking, right? :)

i also think smoking is not glamorized by media at all, there are MANY anti tobacco campaigns all over the world, most famous stars don't smoke publicly, and smoking is sooo passe now...

  4. Hardly anyone belives me, but I have never touched a cigarette - literally! Nobody in my family ever smoked (well, last year I found out grandpa did, but never in front of us kids and he always spent enough time on fresh air for the smell to disappear), we were told what a shit it is etc. etc. And seeing the damaged body organs at the presentation in school only steeled me in my decision. I hate smoking - and smokers who do not care about people around them. Wanna smoke? Go somewhere where you are alone or with someone who doesn´t mind. I do mind. I do not want your smoke ruining my lungs.

  5. well, I can understand, that's why I never smoke in presence of people who might not like it.

But anyway, I still think there are million things worse than smoking on this planet, people just make too much fuss about all the smoking/non-smoking affairs...

  6. That's true what you said about people getting sick. Ava was so sick yet Gregory, who smoke almost his entire life, didn't have those problems (as far as I know, anyway. Nothing I ever read indicated to it though). I guess some of it depends on your genes and such :)

I do sort of think that despite all the anit-smoking/drinking/drugs ads, there are still glamorizing elements to it. Not as much as it used to be of course, but there still is some, I'd say. Of course, we live in different countries so we probably see some different things :)

  7. I thought I had posted a comment there... :s

(my heart skipped a beat at SRK. OK shut up.XD)

I have to say, that I've never smoked too, and seriously I do not feel like that. But I don't think it's way too glamorized on the medias, it's probably because I don't really care about it... Nowadays there are so many anti-smokings ads that everybody knows what the risks are, and if, nevertheless, some people still start smoking then it's their problem. (as long as they don't smoke next to me)
I think French government is very hypocritical about this issue. First, they forbid smoking in public areas, and they are always making anti-smoking ads (on TV or elsewhere) but in the same time, thanks to the "TVA "(a tax we pay when we buy things), they receive plenty of money thanks to cigarettes sold. They're making anti-smoking ads, and in the same time, they still receive money thanks to smokers who buy cigarettes.

It's great how you addressed the issue dear.

  8. well for me the biggest issue is not the fact that you are smoking or not, because I am and believe me, when I wasn't, I did not really care about it, I mean, I wasn't a freaky health-maniac who was shouting 'AAAAAAAAAh smoke, but not in my presence!!!' - although ok, i know it may be bothering. What I want to say is that now, all of a sudden, so many people become anti-tobaccoists, and like a week ago, they were smoking with others and everything was right, so well...

besides, even non-smokers used to be pretty 'ok no problem' with smoking people back in the days here in Poland, and SUDDENLY it's a war. To me, it's just hilarious, and believe me, I am not a part of that old pro-smoking team, I started more regular smoking like two months ago, when we all already knew that the non-smoking laws are gonna be introduced.

what makes me laugh is the fact that all of a sudden, all the non-smokers here are so OUTRAGED about smoking, and before it was not really a problem - they also could protest and argue with smokers, and everything was fine. Never ever a normal thinking person who is a smoker would sit near someone else who is not smoking, e.g. on the bus stop or a bench in the park, that's the code of well-behaving, isn't it?

and now, since we have those laws, people are getting so conspirated with smoking that it's getting just hilarious, you can't smoke in a pub - what the hell, can you imagine a pub without a glass of beer *yuck to me btw HAHAHAH* and smoking people? you don't wanna smell of cigarettes, you don't go there, and now - you wanna sit in a cafe and smoke - you can't.

    THAT IS A DISCRIMINATION.

before, there were separate parts of the restaurants for smokers and non-smokers, everything was fine.

Now the restaurants that are too small, can't get a second additional room for smokers, which means they're loosing clients and money.

and YES, i insist on saying that it kind of discriminates smokers, since for instance, in a separate room at the cafe, they were poisoning only themselves, and not the non-smokers. Now they can't even get into the cafe.

Shit all the way, that's what I think.

What is your opinion on that matter, girls?

ps. I am SO glad I got so many responses :)

  9. You included my idol Marjane Satrapi! XD
Anyway it's true! A lot of people smokes, more than what many of us thinks and that's the reality. I know people, especially mom who CANNOT live without smoking for major reasons, I won't bring it up. But if someone sop smoking, another, but worse habbit would appear, from drugs to alcohol. My dad were very close at the point start become a alcoholic if he didn't had heart problem already and that was AFTER he STOPPED smoking. So you see dear all anti-smokers. It's not so easy to quit and live without it. That is why no one should ever start smoking, but what's done is done.
My cousin had it worse, he was drug addictive as young, he became also alcoholic later on, so instead of these two worse drugs; he became smoker. And I personally prefer him as a smoker, than becoming a alcoholic or drug-addictive, because he has a wife and a kid who are just 4-year-old! So it's not the smoking itself that is very dangerous, I think alcohol are the worst thing that can cause so much damage that it can split its family.

  10. *Sorry I made some misspelling, but I was in hurry, because I had projects to do.*
    But you get the point.

And to make sure that no one is misunderstanding, I'm a none-smoker myself, but hates aggressive non-smoker hypocrites.

  11. "Never ever a normal thinking person who is a smoker would sit near someone else who is not smoking, e.g. on the bus stop or a bench in the park, that's the code of well-behaving, isn't it?"

Yes, of course. But believe me, when I was in high-school, many people were smoking, and in any place, it did not bother to them if the non-smokers near them did not mind. So many of them did not know the code of well-behaving, obviously. :)

"besides, even non-smokers used to be pretty 'ok no problem' with smoking people back in the days here in Poland, and SUDDENLY it's a war."

Pity it's like that in Poland. No, we did not experience this problem in France.

Yes, French government forbade to smoke in cafes and restaurants too, but the problem is only economical. I mean, seriously, do you imagine a cafe without smokers? It's always been like that, and that is why I never go to a café, because I know it. It's just that they're loosing clients and money as you said and that is the big problem.

But I know I will sound selfish, it has never bothered me. I have never particularly thought about it, because I'm no concerned at all, I'm no smoker, and I don't run any café or restaurant. I don't what the situation is for the latter though...

  12. Smoking is just horrible. I know what damages it can cause and I will never touch a single cigarette. Every time I smell smoke, it gave me a headache. I remember when we got two hotel rooms for our basketball/cheer-leading tournament, we found out that one of them was full with strong smoke. I was only 13 and I consistently coughed. Luckily, my best friend and I choose the other smoke-less room. I just can't imagine how I would feel if I did smoke. It would probably be worse. :-/

My parents loathed smoking, thank god.

  13. *hmmm seems like my comment deleted itself [huh], so I will try to rewrite what I wanted to say*

well, we all know smoking is terrible for our health, right? with you Becky, you don't smoke and you get sick (i mean coughing), with me it's fine, so...

sometimes you just start smoking and it kinda becomes your way of life. I can't say it is my way of life, because I DON'T feel like smoking every single day. There are days when I smoke A LOT, and there can be a week when i don't smoke at all, it depends.

anyway, smoking is bad, but there's so many other things that are bad in this world, hmm?

  14. Magda, it's amazing - I'm just like you. Sometimes I smoke a lot, but then I long time didn't think about cigarettes. I know it's bad for the health and looks just awful. Only one my friend knows about my terrible habit :D

But stop! Now you all know... OMG! xD

  15. hahahah, Anzhelika, come on :D:D

well, my parents probably suspect I do, but never pick up the topic. My brother smokes a LOT, and he used to be such AN AVID NON-SMOKER back in the days, that he shouted at me when I was smoking! Literally, he was just yelling at me, and now...

People change, sometimes for good and sometimes for bad.

What DANA said not so long ago here, it's probably better if you are addicted to cigarettes than to alcohol or drugs, don'tcha all think so? and besides, you can screw your life up with so many other things, that the tobacco is not the worst one of them!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I agree! There are many things that a thousand times worse than smoking!

  17. Love the pictures - lot's I'd never seen. The Johnny Depp one is great and the one of Jack blowing smoke rings!
